Growing Instructions

Growing Pet Sprouts wheatgrass for your pets is SIMPLE! You’ll just need a planting container, organic soil, water, and your Pet Sprouts seeds. Once you’ve got all your supplies, you can begin to follow the steps outlined below:

  1. Based on the size of your growing container, sprinkle about 1 to 3 tablespoons of seeds on the top of your soil. Then cover seeds with a thin layer of soil and water well.
  2. Seeds will begin to grow within 5-7 days. Once sprouts are visible, move to sunny location (but avoid hot direct sunlight). Water soil 1 to 2 times per week to keep the soil moist. Wheatgrass loves to be misted, so we recommend using a spray bottle full of fresh water to mist the grass once daily.
  3. Feed the grass to your pets when sprouts are at least 4-5” tall (usually 7-10 days).

Pre-Soaking. Some growers prefer to soak the seeds first. To do this, take the seeds you have selected for planting and rinse them well in clean water. Then soak your seeds in cool water for 8-12 hours (a mason jar works great). Make sure the seeds are completely submerged in water. After the time is up, drain the water, rinse well, and cover the jar lid with a cloth (so the seeds can breath) and let them sit for 12-24 hours to sprout, rinsing 2-3 times per day to keep them moist. After the seeds have sprouted it is time to plant them.

Soaking your seeds before planting is not necessary but it can speed up the initial sprout process. To make this process easier, you may consider using a seed sprouting jar.

Things to know….

In humid and warmer climates you may see mold develop around the roots of your wheatgrass. Don’t be alarmed, mold is a common problem when growing wheatgrass. This type of mold is non-toxic and is harmless to your pets. If you prefer, you cut above the mold and feed your pet the grass.

To avoid mold, you can water less often in humid climates and / or place your wheatgrass in front of a fan to air it out.
